…When I was young, we had a picture of the tower hanging in the kitchen. A black and white photo of people working tirelessly on a structure whose very idea was condemned as utter folly. When I was older, I read about the tower in a book and realized that it was quite close to my grandmother’s village. We went there together and took in the view. It was nothing like the photographs.
